Amanda Ribbans

Amanda combines printmaking with a career in graphic design. She studied graphic design in London, where she explored lithography and screenprinting for poster design projects.

After graduating she became senior designer at the Southbank Centre, designing and illustrating their publicity material. Two of her designs were awarded ‘Best Poster of the Year’ by the International Society for the Performing Arts.

Amanda returned to study printmaking at Richmond Adult College, with an emphasis on screenprinting and linocuts. She makes her prints in a garden shed studio.

Her subjects are reactions to life experiences that have triggered a moment of happiness and reflect her enjoyment of the natural world. She hopes that some of those emotions will transfer to the viewer. Her work is often bold and reductive – a combination of observation and imagination.

Buffy Kimm

Etching is Buffy’s medium. Buffy takes inspiration from the obscure and unusual, exploring both nature and architecture. Initially working through photography, she is fascinated by light and shadow and likes to experiment in her search for innovative ways to depict images that intrigue her. She aims to inspire viewers to look more carefully at their surroundings, to appreciate what is actually there, but which may not be obvious at first sight. Her work is detailed and sometimes playful.

Born in Portsmouth, Buffy graduated with a BA Hons in Three Dimensional Design. She started etching in 2010 and enjoys experimenting with the process.

Buffy has exhibited in the UK and abroad, including Art in Transit (Oldenburg, Germany 2014), the Crypt Gallery (London 2017 and 2019), and The National Open Exhibition (Harrogate 2015).

Catherine Sedgwick

I’m a printmaker and a doctor. I feel lucky to experience the best of both worlds. I am inspired by the environment around me including scenes from nature and architecture, and from film and literature. I love entomology and mythology, as well as degeneration and decay. I always look for the human element and am drawn to humour and the eccentricities of life.

I enjoy switching between printmaking media to suit the image I wish to produce. Originally I worked in screenprinting. I have also embraced collagraph, photopolymer etching, polyester lithograph, monoprinting and tea-toned cyanotype.

I’m also a member of Richmond Art Society and Parkshot Printmakers. I have exhibited at Bankside Gallery, Mall Galleries, Watts Gallery and Woolwich Contemporary Print Fair. I appeared in Pressing Matters magazine as a successful participant in their colour challenge.

Deborah Hercun

Deborah’s prints are marked by an exploration of time, loss and fragmented perspectives, drawing upon her peripatetic background and her life studying film and working as a book editor. Her prints often incorporate unusual angles and perspectives, prompting viewers to pause and reconsider the familiar. This is evident in her photopolymer etchings, where she transforms her photographs into abstract yet evocative forms.

Deborah continues to experiment with diverse printmaking methods. She has started to experiment with mezzotint and has plans to develop artists' books in the future. Deborah is an active member of several printmaking groups as well as Richmond Printmakers, including the Printmakers Council, Kew Studio, East London Printmakers and Southbank Printmakers. She has exhibited with these groups as well as at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition, Woolwich Contemporary Print Fair and Bankside Gallery, home of The Royal Society of Painter-Printmakers.

Diane McLellan

I studied Visual Art at the University of Wales, Aberystwyth, focusing mainly on printmaking. I followed this with a career as a television graphic designer producing title sequences and promos for dramas, which influenced my work visually and technically on my return to printmaking.

Favourite printmaking processes include lithography, monotypes, image transfer and photopolymer etchings. A print starts with a photograph, a snapshot of time. The image becomes the print through layers of mark-making processes, resulting in small variable editions. It is a sense of time, whether passing, frozen or snatched in a photograph, that lies underneath the imagery. This reflects how time and distance can imbue everyday objects with emotional connections.

I have exhibited at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition, Chelsea Arts Society, and am a member of the Printmakers Council.

Eileen St Julian-Bown

Eileen is inspired by the River Thames – its bridges, buildings and the activity along its water. Living in Putney, she has ample opportunity to capture the vibrancy of the river and how people interact with it. “I attempt to represent patterns of activity and powerful architectural forms that draw life to the river, which the river in turn reflects back with every high tide,” she says.

The Grosvenor School is an influence - design and colour are key features. Screenprinting offers Eileen the opportunity to experiment with many ways of representing an image, and offers the means to have colour at its most vibrant.

Every screenprint presents a challenge. Creating a shape or a line can alter its appearance and amplify an area that has caught her imagination. Eileen studied at Farnham School of Art and then the Byam Shaw School of Art. She has exhibited in the Barbican and exhibits regularly with Richmond Printmakers, Southbank Printmakers and the Oliver Contemporary gallery.

Fiona Wallin

I take inspiration from coastal environments and the urban landscape of London, with a particular interest in the relationship between nature and the man-made. Colour and composition are important elements, often using my photographs as starting points. I like to combine bold colours with considered crops to give small details or moments the focus. I love the tactile, physical nature of carving and printing, incorporating hand-drawn and hand-painted elements into my work. I primarily work in screenprint, collagraph and linocut and am based in a small home studio in my garden.

I am a member of Greenwich Printmakers. I have shown my work at the Ironbridge Printmaking Competition, the Royal Society of Marine Artists and have had my work featured in several issues of Pressing Matters magazine.

Heather Graham

My images reflect the daily things that have caught my attention: from the patterns in the fur of a tabby cat sleeping on a pile of zigzag Ikat cushions to a late arrival disturbing the curving rhythms of seating in the Royal Albert Hall, as well as all the detail and beauty of the natural world.

I use photos to record these moments purely for reference and I try to lose the photographic quality of the image by drawing and using different printing techniques, sometimes combining them.  I love the unique details that can be captured by using objects such as leaves and fabrics  directly in the printing process.

My editions are small and varied and I have shown work at Woolwich, Bankside and the Mall Galleries in London and beyond.

Jane Cradock-Watson

Jane’s work is primarily focused on the conceptualisation of the garden and the landscape. She is interested in the relationship between nature, landscape and the human condition, as well as the haptic nature of printmaking and artists books.

More recent work has used the materiality and physical layers of printmaking to explore the often hidden layers of history and narratives within the landscape, both ancient and modern. She uses the textural and layered properties of a variety of print processes combined with handmade papers and chine collé to hint at these hidden narratives.

Jane has had successful careers both as an Illustrator and an Academic at a University. She now spends much of her time concentrating on her own work.

Liz Mundle

Liz Mundle’s work explores the ever-changing natural environment and uses sustainable techniques and materials. She collects flora on her walks along the Thames and wants the work to capture memories that are rooted in a time and place. She allows nature to express what it wants us to see, often presenting us with ambiguous forms which invite the viewer into a fragile, mysterious world.

Liz is experimenting with different ways of using Cyanotype techniques combining them with photography, collage, toning and hand colouring. All her works are monotypes.

Loraine Monk

Loraine Monk’s visual arts practice derives from a sense of place and community. She creates images using both relief and etching processes.

Her family were working-class Londoners, inspired by local and community history. Her background has influenced her politics, academic research and artistic practice. Exploring the inequality of power relations and occluded histories of people, places and ideas, she has produced a series relating to climate change and animal extinction. Drawing is at the heart of her work, whether metal etching on zinc and copper, monoprinting, lino and wood cutting or wood engraving.

She has exhibited in London, Brighton, Sweden and Germany. She completed a residency at Kingston Museum, London in January 2020 and gained an MA in Printmaking at Camberwell in 2021.

Paula Boyd-Barrett

I studied BA Printmaking at WSCAD, taking it up again recently after attending a part-time course.

My screenprints reflect my penchant for vibrant colour, plus a passion for wildlife and our natural world. As children we were encouraged by our grandad to appreciate nature. He taught us the names of the flora and fauna we saw. I still enjoy long walks - I’m always on the lookout for potential subjects for my prints! My aim is to portray the characteristics of the creatures I’ve been lucky to encounter.

Working from my photos and sketches as reference, I create detailed artwork which is then transferred onto a silkscreen to create stencils, which I use to hand-print my images. I’ve shown my screenprints at The Royal Academy Summer Exhibition, Wildlife Artist of the Year and Chelsea Arts Society amongst others.

Ros Pritchard

Ros is a printmaker and artist inspired by the patterns, textures and light of the natural world which she translates into both detailed prints and freer designs, which are often hand-coloured.  She has worked mainly in linocuts, creating both reduction and multi-plate prints, however, she is constantly exploring different print processes and developing techniques which best express her vision.

Ros was Artist in Residence at Ochre Print Studio, Guildford throughout 2022.

Stella Alexander

Stella Alexander is a trained designer and illustrator based in Teddington. She studied illustration at Swindon college of art and works full time as a 3D environmental designer in the events industry.

She has worked in a variety of media, including water colour illustrations used to create a range of textiles. However, her preferred medium has always been printmaking, especially Lino and relief printing, as it has unpredictable results and the process can lead the design in unexpected directions.

Inspired by a love of wildlife and nature, and taking inspiration from vintage natural history prints, she experiments with exploring the beautiful shapes and patterns that can be found in the natural world.

Sue Ribbans

Sue is a painter/printmaker/sculptor with a diverse body of work ranging through prints of fat ladies, figurative painting and abstract works using mixed media.

She tends to get obsessive about a particular subject before moving on to explore her constant source of creative ideas.

Sue left art school in 1963 and spent most of her life as a graphic designer.

In 1989 the purchase of a Columbian Printing press led to a re-interest in printmaking which was part of her college syllabus. Sue is one of the original members of Richmond Printmakers and has exhibited widely with them. She was a member of the Southbank Printmakers Gallery on Gabriel’s Wharf, and has had work accepted by the Royal Society of Watercolour at the Bankside Gallery.

Sue Roe

Sue particularly enjoys creating Collagraphs combined with Monoprint. The Collagraphs allow her to experiment with texture, and the monoprinted element encourages experimentation.  This results in unique, often semi-abstract artworks. Sue produces small variable editions or a series of monoprints.

Sue enjoys looking at the landscape and simplifying it, to capture the essence and sense of place. She also likes portraiture and creates small portraits with the help of her life drawings, photos and imagination. The landscape and human form are infinite, and she is always looking forward to the next challenge.
